Lee spoke to the guide and a few minutes later suddenly rustled up a fishing cutter out of thin air and moored it on the side of the boat. On the floor of the cutter were slithering around various types of fish, including ray. And then commenced the great slaughter: the fisherman selected some samples, sliced the head off and flung the body to the second man, who proceeded to adeptly filet the fish and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Although Maille had grown up with the sea, he had never before eaten fish as fresh as this. These creatures were not only juddering and jerking at life – these fish also believed in a future.
