Hongdo, above the harbour

Scene 19

Maille climbed up a path that led to a platform that afforded an excellent view over the harbour. From here one could see the entire little island, and at that moment its rugged coastal rocks looked like dark chunks of meat cooked in soya rising out of a shimmering golden sauce of a sea.

He should keep his head clear. If Tatjana and Mr Lee were on the island, he would find them sooner or later. The next boat to the mainland was in 20 hours – by then he should have clarified the most important points.

Maille missed the right time for dinner and went to bed on an empty stomach – tiny islands can be unkind in this regard. But then even James Bond partook of no more than a single little spoonful of beluga in his films – a comforting thought.
