Jerusalem, Church of Saint Lemusa

Scene 7

Was it a coincidence that a few steps later he reached a chapel which was dedicated to Holy Lemusa? He had had no inkling that the saint was revered also outside his own island. Most certainly it had been believers from Lemusa who had founded this cult. What had happened to these people? Was there a Lemusan diaspora here?

The chapel was small but flooded with a golden, almost wet light. The room smelled after a peppery incense, of cloves and cinnamon as well, a little bit like allspice - certainly the Holy Lemusa had smelled like that too. And again Maille felt as though he was experiencing something special. For the first time in his life he felt a frisson, a tingling connection to this saint – female though she was. Relationship or conversion?
