The Saga of the Namarrgarn Sisters
The Namarrgarn sisters liked to play at the mouth of the East Alligator river. During the game they transformed themselves into crocodiles and hid themselves from each other. One day, one of the sisters said: «Come sister, let us turn into crocodiles so that we can kill everyone. Whoever it is, never mind which aboriginal tribe the person belongs to, we will kill him.»
The sisters then travelled to a sweetwater pond called Gungarn'derdi, located very near Point Farewell, and transformed themselves into crocodiles. The palms that flourish on the banks of the pond grew out of the teeth that the sisters plucked out of their mouths and planted in the earth there.
