Kakadu National Park Ubirr Rock

Scene 7

Arnhem Land is a large, independently administered aboriginal territory in northern Australia that outsiders can visit only with a special permit. The border between Arnhem Land and the Kakadu National Park runs along a long stretch of the East Aligator river. Cloise over this swampy river lies the Ubirr Rock, a massive array of rocks decorated with ancient aboriginal art that provides an insight into the history and tradition of its native people.

As usual Maille found his way there with the help of GPS coordinates and, for once, he came across a blue towel at the spot instead of the customary plastic bag or bank note. Beside it lay a note which read: «A gift for Hektor – from a female friend, in true gratitude for the space at my disposal.» It made absolutely no sense. Who was this woman friend? Or, rather, who wished to be the friend? And what sort of space was meant? It was all as absurd as Christmas in Singapore.
