Dakar, Hotel «Atlantique»

Scene 13

In an agent's biography there are many things that are not entirely explicable. With time all the open questions, all the tiny mysteries lie exposed like little teeth on a psychological jaw. Furthermore, they provoke a sense of disorder – quite like objects lying untidily around in one's home, things that one can neither look after nor get rid of. When Maille felt this sort of film, or mist, shrouding his mind and his life, he seized the opportunity to have a bath. Of course, the film did not disappear in the bath – but somehow things seemed clearer when once one was deep in the foam.
