Zingiber officinale is one of the 20 ingredients of Maille-Masala, the hot spice blend of «Mission Kaki». Each ingredient that Hektor Maille finds during his research in India is reminiscent of a particular scene from the 20 different episodes of the travel adventure «Mission Kaki». Dried ginger refers to: Scene 5 in Episode 4 («Wallgames in Beijing»).

In the beginning, Odette had worked with people whom she had engaged temporarily in a particular place – mostly with the help of old colleagues of her father, who was reasonably well-networked. It was sufficient to let them regularly have some grains of asofoetida that they could hide in their pockets. With the help of the strong smell of this resin she could construct a peculiar type of gangster-troop, an imaginary criminal syndicate, whose members demonstrated their links with one another through smelly signs – an olfactory identity badge, as it were, for criminals.
