Maille leapt out of his observation post and raced after the man in the brown jacket. The latter soon realised he was being followed and increased his speed. He was fast and skilled, but slightly hampered by the briefcase and dossier in his hand, especially as there were obstacles to overcome on the steep path. Maille got closer and closer to the man. He began to get a whiff of the fellow's sweat in the air, of his strange, pungent perfume.
