Then Maille finally came across Dr Hing's henchman. The fellow, called Charles, had hidden himself in a shady corner of the park, where the gardeners were attempting to breed beans and pumpkins. He stood behind a hedge – now and then he saw the flash of the steel blade of the sickle with which the cowardly assassin was obviously meaning to snuff out the president's life.
